Gareth Hoskins Architects receive planning for West End housing

Glasgow City Council Planning has just approved a new housing development in Glasgow's West End, designed by Gareth Hoskins Architects, for family house builder, Mactaggart & Mickel.

Tucked in amid a 1940’s Mactaggart & Mickel housing development in Kelvindale, the development comprises a single four storey brick clad block of 15 two bedroom apartments. Penthouses are large and one features a roof terrace with views to the north over the Forth & Clyde Canal. Mactaggart & Mickel decided that existing run down lock ups and a prefabricated concrete scout hall should be relocated on the site. The architects combined these to create a single building, in contrasting deep blue brick, which encloses the furthermost boundary and provides a visual stop to the site entrance. Whilst not in Mactaggart & Mickel’s current build programme, when the site does come forward, the users of the scout hall and lock-ups will be fully consulted.

Mactaggart & Mickel’s client liaison, Liz Farrell, said, “We are delighted to achieve planning permission for this exciting development. It is important to us that the existing community uses are retained and we are certain that these beautiful new houses will revitalize the area.”
