Glasgow City Council’s Executive Committee of 26 June approved plans for the Council to enter into a partnership with development company Firthport Ltd to redevelop a site at Clydestreet / Bridgegate, where land is owned by both partners.
Firthport Ltd have a proposal to redevelop the site and the adjacent waterfront between Stockwell Street and Saltmarket, which is owned by the Council. They propose to develop a new land-based hotel with adjoining water-based facilities including a floating bar and restaurant, and a new pedestrian area along the waterfront with floating offices and studios.
Although these plans are at a very early stage, the developers are prepared to commit substantial resources to the project subject to the Council being willing to contribute its land into a partnership agreement. This would produce either a capital receipt or an equity participation in the project.
Councillor Philip Braat, Deputy Executive Member for Business and the Economy at Glasgow City Council, said: “This project has the potential to be a key development for both the Clyde and this area of the city centre. The area around this site is being transformed, and its successful regeneration would provide a link between Custom House Quay and Glasgow Green.”
