Glasgow City Council’s Executive Committee of 26 June approved a tender for the Initial Remediation Works for the 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village.
After considering a number of tenders, VHE has been appointed to carry out the initial land remediation work at the village site, located in Dalmarnock, in Glasgow’s East End. The VHE tender is costed at £5.872million.
The remedation work is expected to begin later this summer, with construction work on the village site to begin in Autumn 2010. Glasgow City Council and development partner City Legacy are developing the village - a site of 38.5 hectares - for use during the Games and after as a new neighbourhood for Glasgow.
The Executive Committee also agreed that Grontmij should continue to act as project engineers at a cost of £400,000, and other costs such as landfill, planning and service diversion fees totalling around £705,000.
The overall cost of the land remediation work is estimated at just under £6.89million. This cost will be met by the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund and the Better Glasgow Fund.
Councillor George Ryan, Executive Member for Business and the Economy at Glasgow City Council, said: “The land remediation work at the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village site is the next stage in the delivery of this exciting project, which will help to showcase the city in 2014 and bring a new neighbourhood of the highest quality to this area of Glasgow.”
