Architecture or Architorture?

Well it’s now sunny outside, skirts and shorts are appearing as the standard dress code and everyone is thinking of their summer hols. Yet for us architecture students, these are all signs that the hermit period has begun...

No time for more changes to your design now, it’s all about the production. Fellow students say a temporary farewell to all family, partners and friends as we prepare for the final push to get things done. Your social life is now on hold.

Get yourself to your local supermarket and stock up on tinned foods, microwaveable meals, caffeine supplements and most importantly new CD’s for by the end of this 2 week period you will be sick to death of all music that you currently own! You could practically replace the lead artist knowing all their songs word for word.

Alternatively there is the radio, I can now recite all adverts for local businesses including that annoying window supplier(!) and you will find yourself being really ‘cool’ knowing what is in the charts for once. The other benefit of the radio is the ability to keep up with the news. It really is the only contact to the outside world... so don’t worry guys, there is no chance architecture students will catch the swine flu – we are already in quarantine! That’s right folks, architecture is actually saving us...

Now don’t get me wrong we all need breaks, yet when you are in the ‘zombified’ state, these are required to be easy going, ‘non-think’ breaks. During the day get outside and have some exercise to appreciate the good weather that everyone else is now going on about, or if your break appears to be in the wee small hours of the morning opt for reality tv shows. Now, as bad as these shows are, they are perfect for architecture students. These provide a chance to watch other people cope with crit-like situations with Simon Cowell and Sir Alan Sugar replacing the role of tutors(!); and remind us that we are all human.

There are only 2 weeks to go until the final pin up now though, there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel – and we will get there. For some unknown reason, we always do!

So let’s all get stuck into our uni work – isn’t sleep overrated these days anyway?! With the current r*~!#@*$n it looks like there’ll be plenty of time for sleeping after!

And remember we WILL deserve that celebratory glass of champers (wait a minute, this is university – maybe wine?!) at the degree show!

The public had better watch out – all Scottish architecture students will be painting their towns red!!

Good Luck!
