Westermoffat Avenue, Airdrie

Glasgow based Stephen Miles Architects were approached by a private client to extend, and make internal improvements to, an existing 1950’s bungalow.

Proposals consisted of removing the internal ceilings to create a warm internal roof space with a series of roof lights around the central core of the house. An existing chimney will be re-clad with reclaimed Caithness stone to create a feature at the heart of the existing property. A new open plan kitchen dining area will aslo be created.

The practice proposed adding a single story timber box extension to the rear of the property. The box will be clad with vertical oak cladding, with a low profile zinc roof. The project will also feature a bespoke 3mx3m sliding screen out to decking to take full advantage of the South-East orientation. The new extension will be highly insulated and incorporate underfloor heating systems. All existing PVC windows will be replaced with bespoke timber windows.

The project has received planning permission and will be on site in early 2010.
