Lighthouse Update

A+DS and The Lighthouse Minister for Culture, Michael Russell, has confirmed the Scottish Government's clear commitment to a national centre for architecture based within The Lighthouse building in Glasgow. The three Scottish Government programmes that were being administered by the now defunct 'Lighthouse Trust' have now been transferred to the non-departmental public body Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS).

Speaking on Tuesday 12th November the Minister said: "I am glad that through discussion with the administrators and the owners of the building - Glasgow City Council - we have identified a way to ensure a national centre for architecture continues within The Lighthouse. "Arrangements are now being made for staff working on our programmes to transfer to Architecture and Design Scotland - programmes we remain committed to. With this continuity, our programmes can continue to deliver exhibitions, events and activities to the high standard achieved for so many years by The Lighthouse Trust."

The move has been warmly welcomed by the Chair of A+DS Raymond Young CBE who stated that: "We are delighted to be able to play a part in ensuring that The Lighthouse remains as a centre for architecture and the city. We welcome the addition of the expert staff teams in ACCESS to Architecture, Senses of Place and SUST to our existing highly skilled team. These teams have worked well together in the past and by bringing the two groups together A+DS will be able to offer a wider programme while ensuring the benefits of a more integrated approach to the promotion of better places across Scotland. We look forward to having our own base in Glasgow, as well as in Edinburgh, and to continuing to work closely with Glasgow City Council".
